However, users may think they are anonymous when they are not and any small piece of identifying information can be used for disastrous effect. Retroactively making communications non-anonymous by revealing public information tied to their online persona is called doxxing. This can have many dangerous effects, especially if the wrong person is exposed. This trend of doxxing can be dangerous for everyone and it puts many people’s freedom of speech at risk.
